Bourganeuf se situe au pied du Plateau des Mille Vaches, et depuis sa création concentre une activité commerçante des producitions locales.
La ville fondée tardivement, d'où son nom, occupait une position stratégique régionale, militaire et religieuse.
La ville est perchée avec en son centre un
ancien château de la commanderie des Hospitaliers de Jérusalem et autres bâtiments médivaux bien conservés.
Une longue rue commerçante accueille des foires et es brocantes régulièrement dans l'année.
Bourganeuf is located at the foot of the Plateau of a Thousand Cows, and since its creation concentrates a
commercial activity of local productions.
The city founded late, hence its name, occupied a strategic regional, military and religious position.
The city is perched with at its center an ancient castle of the Commandery of the Hospitallers of Jerusalem and other well-preserved medieval buildings.
Long shopping street that hosts fairs and local markets regularly throughout the year.
Un peu d'histoire
La ville de Bourganeuf, Borgon Nuòu (Petit Bourg Neuf) a été créé par l'ordre des Hospitaliers de Jérusalem au XIIe siècle,
et non pas des Templiers. La commanderie devînt le siège du grand prieuré d'Auvergne, qui fut transféré à Lyon en 1750. De cette commanderie, de nombreux
bâtiments du centre-ville en faisaient partie : les bâtiments conventuels, une tour construite par Jean de Lastic en 1530,
l'église Saint-Jean (XIIe siècle - XVe siècle).
La célèbre Tour Zizim&nb: à la mort du conquérant de Constaninople en 1453, qui a marqué la fin de l'empire romain d'orient, ses deux fils se disputent l'héritage.
Djem, appelé Zizim par les Européens, est deux fois défaits et se met sous la protection des Hospitaliers qui lui contruisent une tour où il est consigné pendant
deux ans comme hôtage. Toute sa vie en Europe, il est utilisé comme diplomate entre les Européens et l'empire Ottoman. Djem meurt en Italie en 1495.
Comme beaucoup de ville en Creuse, elle perd des habitants chaque année. Elle conserve toutefois sa tradition commerçante de la région et reste un pôle
indutriel du bois.
A bit of history
The city of Bourganeuf, Borgon Nuòu (Small New Town) was created by the Order of the Hospitallers of Jerusalem in the 12th century,
and not by the Templars. The commandery became the seat of the grand priory of Auvergne, which was transferred to Lyon in 1750. Of this commandery, many buildings
in the city center were part of it: the conventual buildings, a tower built by Jean de Lastic in 1530, the church Saint-Jean (XIIe century - XVe century).
The famous Tour Zizim: at the death of the conqueror of Constantinopolis in 1453, which marked the end of the Eastern Roman Empire, his two sons compete for the inheritance.
Djem, called Zizim by the Europeans, is twice defeated and puts himself under the protection of the Hospitallers who build a tower for him where he is confined
for two years as a hostess. All his life in Europe, he is used as a diplomat between the Europeans and the Ottoman Empire. Djem dies in Italy in 1495.
Like many cities in Creuse, it loses inhabitants every year. However, it retains its trading tradition of the region and remains an industrial center for wood.
